Fall Scholastic Book Fair: September 2^nd-September 11^th, 2008
The 2008-2009 Sunshine State Young Reader Award Program books have been received. Click on the link located on the Media Center’s Main page, to view this year’s 15 titles.
The 2008-2009 Florida Reading Association Children Book Award Nominees have been received. Click on the link located on the Media Center’s main page to view this year’s 8 titles.
AR Stars increases participation in the Accelerated Reader Program each month. We now have our first 5x Red Star Reader as well as our first Gold Star Reader. Click on the AR Stars link located on the Media Center’s main page to learn more about this program.
C.A.R.E. (Canine Assisted Reading Enhancement) helps students read. Through this program therapy dogs assist students with reading skills. The students gain confidence while their reading fluency improves. The program meets once a week in the Media Center and is currently servicing some of our second grade students. Holocaust Speaker: Mr. David Katz, a Holocaust survivor will speak to our 5^th grade students in the Media Center on November 7^th, 2008 at 10:00am.

Barnes & Noble Book Fair: William Lehman Elementary’s Media Center will host a Book Fair at the Barnes & Noble located on S.W. 88^th Street & S.W. 124^th, Avenue, on December 10^th, 2008. Our school will receive a portion of the profits of that evening’s sales. The Book Fair will start at 6:00pm.
Sunshine State Readers Luncheon: The first Sunshine State Readers Luncehon will be held on December 16^th, at 1:00pm in the Media Center. Qualifying students will receive an invitation.Andrew Toffoli, author and illustrator will visit William Lehman Elementary on February 12^th, 2009 as part of the PTA’s “Take Your Family To School Week” He will donate a portion of all book sales to our school. His presentations are scheduled to begin at 1:00pm.
Sunshine State Readers Luncheon: The second Sunshine State Readers Luncheon will be held on February 26^th, 2009 at 1:00pm in the Media Center. Qualifying students will receive an invitation.
Auditions for the 2009-2010 WLE News Crew will take place on April 26^th, 2009. Recommendation forms will be sent out to 4^th grade teachers after Spring Break.
Student Services Field Trip: The WLE News Crew will participate in the Student Services field trip to Sea World on May 8^th, 2009.
Battle of the Books 2009 – Our team is in place. Congratulations to Jessica Conde, Alex Garcia, Dayana Manrique. Ambar March, Sophia Viteri and Shangtao Wu for making this year’s team. Battle of the Books is scheduled for May 15^th, 2009. We are awaiting further news on the location (Calusa Elementary or Coral Gables Elementary).
